We are all tangled in an intricate web of influences, connected through a network of events, places, experiences, people, and objects, beyond the restraints of time. My most recent work, Shadows and Life Paintings, each a series of oil on canvas, examine multiple facets of this philosophy.

Shadows is not a collection of paintings but a single representation of the many streams of experience in my life, and the impact of those experiences. Though conceptualized prior to a spinal injury in 2002, the series reflects the adversity I faced during that period, but with my recovery, shifts gradually to an emphasis on light rather than shadow. The new series of flowers, Life Paintings, underscores the impact that one person’s life, no matter how temporary or fragile, can have on others. The title of each piece is the birth date (and death date in some cases) of an individual whose beautiful existence is represented by the work.
